How it works
Simple to start, and shaped around the person
Whether you are looking for support for yourself, a relative or someone you work with, this is what happens after you get in touch.

Step by step
What happens next
There is no pressure at any point, and you can ask as many questions as you like before deciding anything.
Prefer to talk it through? Call 07443 375387.
Get in touch
Call us, or fill in our short form. You can get in touch for yourself, or for someone else with their agreement: families, friends, neighbours, carers, health and care professionals and community organisations all refer to us.
A first conversation
We have a friendly first chat to understand the person’s situation: their interests, how they like to communicate, who is around them, how confident they feel with technology and what they would like to get out of it.
Careful matching
Every person is different. We match them with a Digital Friend based on shared interests, communication style, availability and the support they would like, so conversation feels natural from the start.
Regular companionship and support
Calls begin on a day and at a time that suits. Alongside the conversation, we can help with devices and video calling, keep an eye on wellbeing and suggest local groups and activities.
Ongoing review
We stay in touch and review how things are going. As needs change, we change the support with them, and we act quickly if something is wrong.
What to expect
The way we work
At your pace
Start with a short call and build from there. Nothing is rushed, and nothing is decided for you.
Safe and trusted
Every member of staff and every volunteer is Enhanced DBS checked, and we follow safeguarding procedures.
Questions
Common questions
Anything else? Call us on 07443 375387.
Who is A Digital Friends for?
Older people who feel lonely, isolated or out of touch, and who would enjoy regular conversation or help with technology. Family members and professionals can get in touch on someone’s behalf, with their agreement.
Do I need a smartphone or computer?
No. Many people start with ordinary telephone calls. If you would like to try video calls, we can help you get set up with the device you have.
How often are the calls?
We agree this together, and aim for a regular day and time so there is always something to look forward to.
What if the match does not feel right?
Tell us. We review arrangements as needs change and want every match to feel comfortable.
Is this an emergency service?
No. If you or someone else is in immediate danger, call 999. For urgent medical help that is not an emergency, call NHS 111. If you need to talk to someone right now, Samaritans are free on 116 123, day or night.
